Cooper probably made this barrel
Heavy Tosca
So we figure that as long as we're out here on the hysterical east coast, we should go see some hysterical sites (that hysterical joke was for you, Mom!). Just a pair of hours away from us lives Harper's Ferry, West Virginia - one of those old-timey historical places that all elementary school children in the National Capitol Region visit at one time or another. So lo, we visited! And were merry! From the pictures you can see that we found a barrel for Cooper to sit on and historical firearms that scared the shit out of my dog. Good times. We crossed a bridge to join the Appalachian Trail and descended a frightening spiral staircase to get to the ground, much to our stair-phobic dog Tosca's chagrin. On our way back, I ended up carrying all 90 quivering hairy pounds back up the staircase. Oh, and then Tosca pooped on the national park grounds. But you aren't here to read about who pooped on what national where, you're here to read about our wacky birthday celebrations!!?!

Birthday cake: Before
Birthday cake: After
On the 24th we had a party for both me and Toph (who, according to vet records, was recovered in West Virginia on the 24th the year before). Jody took me out for some awesome food (I ated a steak!) and ice cream cake, and then we cooked up a dog-food-cake for the Toph (who wins the "most vigorous cake eater" award).

Mystery Gift #1
Mystery Gift #2
Jody got me a guitar for my birthday (something we've been talking about for a long time now) and two mystery gifts, pictured. See, this is one of the reasons I think Jody is great: these gifts hadn't arrived in time, so she wrapped these two cryptic coupons in decorative bags. The "Another Mystery" one was rolled up in the same way that you might roll up a treasure map. Something about it delighted me completely. All in all I'd call it a very successful birthday celebration.
